Infected
So our kids brought home a lovely little gift with them from vacation. They both ended up with Hand Foot and Mouth disease. I've never ever heard of this until now. On our second day of travelling home, Liam was really irritable, wouldn't drink or eat, and just was not fun to be around. We thought it was just because he hates being in his carseat for long stretches. Nope. Turns out he was brewing a little virus in his little body. We noticed that night that he had a red rash on his bum, like hives. I figured it was because he'd been sitting for 2 days, and no matter how many diaper changes he had, it's still hot to sit strapped in and not move. Anyway, the next morning Spencer also had the same rash. Again, I just thought it was from sitting in the carseat for so long. Spencer was never pissy or fevered like Liam, so I just thought that maybe Liam was trying to pop a few more teeth. So, we leave for home last Thursday and all is fine. Liam has a bit of a crappy night, but I assume this is because he's been away from his bed for so long, it's just taking him a little bit to get settled. Spencer slept great that night. Friday, Liam is still pissy and really really clingy to Dan. Spencer...just his usual self. On Saturday morning while I was getting Liam dressed I noticed his toes had some blisters on them. Didn't bother me too much. I thought that maybe his sandals were rubbing his toes and that's why he had blisters. Then around 11 Dan says that Spencer's hands are now covered in blisters. THIS freaked me out. I had just been playing with Spencer about 45 minutes before this putting stickers on his hands and arms, and he had NOTHING. So it scared me enough to pack up both kids and head for the ER. Turns out they've both got Hand Foot and Mouth disease. It's a normal childhood ailment and it clears up on it's on in about a week. We were told to just give Liam some Motrin as he had blisters in his mouth that were cleary very uncomfortable. Other than that, just make sure we do lots of handwashing and no cup/utensil sharing. Good enough. Today is the first day that things are starting to look better. Spencer's hand blisters are starting to deflate and fade away. The huge blister on Liam's toe is now fading too. His mouth is better. He had a bottle this morning...apparently that was part of his temper issue. He hadn't been taking bottles because his mouth was too sore. So in turn he was a little monster to deal with. Gave him a bottle this morning and the world seems to be all right again!! I'm hoping by tomorrow or the next day the blisters will be gone and things will be back to normal!
